If you’ve never tried freeze-dried candy before, get ready for a whole new experience. The process is transforming familiar treats into lighter, puffier versions of themselves, and Jolly Rancher is the latest and biggest brand to get in on the trend.

Jolly Rancher Freeze Dried is available now, nationwide. The new candies come in three classic flavors: Green Apple, Blue Raspberry and Watermelon. The twist is that freeze-drying concentrates those flavors and creates a spherical shape and airy texture. The taste is instantly recognizable, but the crunch is totally new.

“Freeze-drying intensified the Jolly Rancher flavor and made the texture light, puffy and crunchy — a bit like that of a Cheeto,” says Heath Goldman, Food Network culinary editor and trend forecaster. “Jolly Ranchers have been transformed from a candy you slowly suck into a snack you toss back quickly and then reach for more. They’re addictive.”

Chances are, this is the first freeze-dried candy you’ve seen on grocery store shelves. Smaller companies have already gained traction on TikTok, but Jolly Rancher is making the trend more easily accessible. We’re guessing it’s only the first major brand to do so.

“Food Network predicted that freeze-dried candy would be a big trend in 2025. So far, small, direct-to-consumer companies have dominated the space,” Goldman says. “Jolly Rancher entering the chat means this trend is going mainstream — we expect to see other candy companies following suit.”

Freeze-dried candy is the perfect little treat for those with a sweet tooth, especially those who are craving affordable and fun new experiences. If that sounds like you, keep an eye out on your next snack run; it’s worth picking up a bag.
