Hot honey used to be kind of a novelty, but it has spread and spread and is, at this point, pretty much everywhere. Proof of its ubiquity: It is now at Subway.

The sandwich chain is offering hot honey, which it is calling “the trending flavor of the year,” on two new “chef-created, swicy” subs. Subway’s new “bold and powerful” Hot Honey sauce, which will be available nationwide for a limited time, can also be added to any sandwich, wrap or salad at no extra cost.

“Hot honey has captured the hearts (and taste buds) of fans across the world,” the brand says. “It was only natural for Subway, known for its signature sauces and creations, to heat things up with its own spin on the flavor.”

The two new subs are Hot Honey Pepperoni, which features the sweet, spicy new sauce over pepperoni, provolone cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and red onions on Subway’s toasted Artisan Italian bread, and Hot Honey Chicken, which includes rotisserie-style chicken, melted Monterey cheddar, lettuce, tomatoes and red onions on that same Artisan Italian bread. The latter sub is drizzled with both Hot Honey sauce and Creamy Sriracha and topped with Subway’s crispy, fried, savory seasoned flakes, SubKrunch.

The new Hot Honey Pepperoni sub will be featured on Subway’s curated $6.99 Meal of the Day. For a limited time, the Thursday Meal of the Day will be a six-inch Hot Honey Pepperoni along with a choice of chips or cookies and fountain drink for just $6.99. (You can upgrade to a footlong sandwich for $9.99.)

The new “tingly” and “bold” Hot Honey sauce balances “naturally sweet honey” and “the kick of cayenne and habanero pepper powder and flavorful spices like garlic, onion and cloves,” according to the chain.

“Subway’s signature sauces have become as popular as the footlong itself, elevating our freshly sliced meats and vegetables with bold and beloved flavors,” Paul Fabre, Subway’s senior vice president of culinary and innovation, said in a news release. “Our fans know we’re the sub sauce experts, which is why we’re putting a Subway twist on a hot culinary trend, combining sweet honey with hot pepper and a savory blend of spices.”

Along with the new Hot Honey sauce, Subway is also adding a new bubbly beverage — Celsius Sparkling Orange — at Subway locations nationwide.
