Le Creuset, the venerable French-Belgian cookware brand, is generally associated with colorful, capacious enameled cast iron cookware perfect for preparing larger batch meals for family and friends to gather ’round. Now the brand best (and longest) known for its big, beautiful Dutch ovens (Julia Child’s beloved ’70s-era Le Creuset “Cocotte” is in the Smithsonian) is launching its first ever single-serving collection.
The eight items in Le Creuset’s Gourmand Collection, initially designed for use in a hospitality setting, are being sold in sets of four, if you do happen to be cooking for a group, but each is also suitable for those who are cooking for one.
“We recognized a growing desire in the premier cookware market for smaller, single-serve pieces,” Christopher Scinto, Le Creuset’s senior vice president of marketing and sales, says in a news release. “Each item in the Gourmand Collection is crafted to withstand the rigorous demands of a commercial kitchen, while retaining the signature Le Creuset aesthetic and craftsmanship for a refined dining experience at home.”
The cookware in this cute-yet-dignified, individually enjoyable collection is made of cast iron and coated with matte black enamel, so there is no need to season before use. The cookware also boasts large, distinctive, curved, ergonomic handles — great for grabbing with an oven-gloved hand. The pieces promise to be stackable, dishwasher-safe and easy to clean, chip resistant, and safe for use in or on heat up to 842 degrees Fahrenheit/450 degrees Celsius, including induction. Lids feature stainless-steel knobs and are made to fit snugly for “effortless” serving, the brand says.
The Gourmand Collection includes the following four-piece kitchen-to-table-ready sets: Oval Baker (long, oval, relatively shallow and suitable for main dishes, side dishes, casseroles, pasta and desserts, $320), Rectangular Baker (similar, but longer and rectangular, $320), Cocotte (featuring curved walls and a flat bottom and useful for soups, stews, casseroles, dips, desserts, bread, sauces and side dishes, $280), Cocotte with Lid ($460), Skillet (with an “ergonomic handle and tab helper handle,” $360), Braiser (wider, shallower and suitable for braised main dishes, side dishes, casseroles, pasta and desserts, $280), Braiser with Lid ($460), Wooden Magnetic Trivet (an acacia-wood circular trivet that attaches to the bottom of the collection’s metal cookware to ease with the transition from kitchen to table, $100).
“Whether you’re perfecting ‘Dinner for One’ meals or single-serve dishes are on the menu at your next dinner party, Le Creuset’s Gourmand collection will offer an elevated, restaurant-quality experience and professional craftsmanship to every meal, all from the comfort of your own kitchen,” the brand promises, adding that the collection is “perfect for meal prepping, and reducing cooking and cleaning time — and waste.”
The Gourmand Collection is currently available at Le Creuset Stores and other “select” retailers and on LeCreuset.com.
